  About Us
Hames Valley is located north of Paso Robles in southern Monterey County, on California’s beautiful central coast. In this secluded valley, the Denney family first began to develop vineyards in 1988. The Hames Valley watershed includes sparse soil, chalky in character, and rolling terrain with California’s signature oak-dotted hills, which protect the vines from the Salinas Valley winds. The climate-warm dry days and cool coastal mornings and evenings-is superior for producing fine flavor and approachability in wine. In this place, we began a dream.
Already having ten years of experience growing wine grapes, our aim was to produce superior-premium varietals. Nineteen years later, the sturdy vines are yielding top quality grapes that make award winning wines, including Merlot, Cabernet, Syrah, Sauvignon Blanc, Viognier and others. Only a small percentage of the grapes from our large plantings are bottled under the Hames Valley Vineyards name. These superb wines are offered for sale directly from the vineyard, and in a few, select locations.

In 1999, captivated by the grace and style of Percheron draft horses, our family added to the dream we were growing in Hames Valley. Working with draft horses reminded us of our own family's agricultural roots, and the history of the region and the valley we chose to be our home. Preserving this history and heritage has always been important to us. We  purchased breeding stock and a six-horse hitch of all black Percheron mares. Within three years, Hames Valley Vineyards became the largest breeder of registered Percherons west of the Rockies. Our pastures, surrounded by vineyards, are home to scores of graceful, majestic, awe-inspiring horses. The all-mare hitch travels around the western US and Canada, thrilling crowds, exhibiting and competing at fairs and shows. You may have seen our exciting hitch at one of these venues! We love to meet the public and share our love of the Percheron draft horse and the history of agriculture.

Hames Valley is a family-owned business, we are life-long farmers, and have a heart-felt commitment to the importance of agriculture in today's society. Farmers are stewards of the land and its bounty, and offer not only abundant harvests, but sorely needed values, to a world in need. We invite you to browse through our website, get to know us better, savor the pictures of the valley we call home, and contact us. Welcome!
